This is the story of a very special little kitten, Laila. Her angel, Julie, found her abandoned, a premature newborn. With her love and devotion, help from vets and orphaned kitten experts, and a lot of vibes and prayers from TCS members, Laila not only survived, but thrived. This is the beginning of her journey. Unfortunately, the rest of the journey, all of the poopie dances and amazing triumphs of will of both Laila and Julie, were lost in the great TCS crash of December 2004.

God is great!
thank you, Lacey! your support means so much to me.
you've all been such a great help to us.
Laila is fine today. she's 85 grams today, (5g up since yesterday) and looking stronger. yesterday i had to take her for another enema. when we came back from the vet, while i was stimulating her after one of her meals, she had a tiny little squirt of poop. it was watery yellow. I'm keeping my eye out for diarrhea, but i think it was just water left over from the enema.
I'm hoping this is a good sign and that she'll be able to have BM from now on.
i've never been so obsessed with poop before... i had to laugh out loud at myself.

LOL,
I take it your space bar broke! I'm so glad Laila is doing nicely. She
certainly isn't out of the woods yet but things are going well for her.
Please give her a gently smooch and cuddle from me.

Tonight, after feeding her, she got a little cranky. I didn't know what
was wrong. She usually calms down as soon as I put her on my chest. She
was restless. She peed before the meal, so i didn't know what it was. I
tried again, just to be sure. And there it was!!! Poop! She pooped. I
couldn't believe it.
I also couldn't believe I was so excited over poop!
My god, what did this kitty do to me!
WOOHOO!!! Never thought I would smile so much over a poop from halfway around the world! Congrats to little Laila and to a super special and very patient surrogate Mommy!

Laila is 14 days old today, and 105g. Big improvement.
Now she is finally at a normal kittens birthweight. She’s eating well, sleeping, and loves to cuddle with me. I could swear she’s been giving me head buts.
Knowing we still have a long way to go before she's out of the woods, I
still have some concerns. Perhaps someone could help me out?
She had another BM today. I know that the stool is supposed to have a toothpaste consistency and a mustard color. The color was there, but it wasn’t formed. It wasn’t watery either. It was kind of creamy, but not like toothpaste. Should I be concerned about diarrhea? Is there something I could do to prevent it, or should I just wait and see?
I’m also worried about URI because on her second day with me she started sneezing. A lot! The vet told me it was just a cold and to keep her warmer for a few days (at about 95°). It looked like she got over the cold because she stopped sneezing. She’s had an occasional sneeze, here and there, but they were rare. Today it looked like one of her eyes was runny. It looked like a little tear. It was clear, no pus. Could it be a sign of URI? If so, what should I do?
I know I’m a bit paranoid, but I’d rather be on the safe side and prevent things from happening. I worry about her so much. She’s my baby!
Tania, Lacey, Sam, Heidi! Thanks for cheering for my baby!
And thank you, Yosemite! I truly am lucky to have found her.
She turned my life upside down, and I'm loving it!

Reason: correction
It
sound like her BM's are just right. As I said earlier, preemies bowels
are still developing, so it takes a little while for them to get it all
together. With the symptoms you describe, it doesnt sound like she has
a URI. A little clear discharge from the eyes is normal, especially if
the kitten has just been mewing loudly. It's as if they're actually
crying, lol.
Happy Birthday little Laila, 2 weeks is a big milestone.
