This is the story of a very special little kitten, Laila. Her angel, Julie, found her abandoned, a premature newborn. With her love and devotion, help from vets and orphaned kitten experts, and a lot of vibes and prayers from TCS members, Laila not only survived, but thrived. This is the beginning of her journey. Unfortunately, the rest of the journey, all of the poopie dances and amazing triumphs of will of both Laila and Julie, were lost in the great TCS crash of December 2004.

Hi, I looked at this website, and it suggests working some warm vaseline into kitten's anus could help.
Also giving the kitten a small dose of cat laxative, but I don't know if they sell this in Croatia, so, I would guess vaseline would be easier to try. http://www.petpeoplesplace.com/Care/Cats/004/22pc.htm
thanks
allissa. they don't have vaseline here, but the vet told me to try the
same thing with olive oil. didn't work though. i'm trying to phone the
vet, but it's early here so he's not answering. i have no choice but to
sit on the phone and keep calling and pestering him untill he agrees to
see her.
dawnofsierra!
thanks for your help. i'll give it a try now. here is the photo:

No vaseline? ????
That's tough!
She is such a cute little thing-I hope she gets better.
I guess that means that they would have no laxative either.
And that enema the website suggests the vet could do for constipated kittens-can they do that?
I
can't see any pictures of her. Please try again to stimulate her-
sometimes it can take some practice. Good on you for keeping us posted.
She's in my thoughts.
they
do have laxative, but the vet was scared of giving it to her since
she's so little. This vet is a newbie. She's young. She works at the
petshop, but she is the only one who was willing to help me and
answered some of my questions.
i'm not sure about the enema. they must have it. I think the real
problem is that these vets don't know anything about preemies. they
don't want to do something, so that they can't be liable for it. even
the girl vet told me she knew very little about them, in fact that i
knew more than she did. Can you believe that one of them told me to
feed her cow's milk and gave me a real baby bottle (big one) that he
used for his dogs?
I
would agree with Sam about the laxative and I also would caution you
about attempting a kitty enema. Not a wise idea for one so young. It
could be that something did not continue to form within her body and
that is why no stool is forthcoming. You need just a gentle touch with
the warm water soaked cotton ball- to much rubbing will chafe her
rectum and cause her more discomfort. As Sam said, it takes practice to
get it right. If possible see if another mother cat will adopt her and
let the mom try and stimulate the baby after you feed her-
well,
i got hold of a good vet. The vet on duty today was really nice and
willing to come down to the station on his day off. a young guy, but
seems like he knows what he's doing. i guess the young vets are still
enthusiastic and try harder to help all the animals.
I will include the details of the vet visit in case any of you ever have a similar problem, this might help you.
he said that she might have some kind of an infection and gave her
antibiotics. that i'm happy about beacause it will also help her fight
other viruses. i was worried about her immune system since she probably
hasn't had any of her mother's colostrum. this gives me hope of her
making it.
when he saw how bloated the poor thing was he put her on a diet. no
food till the evening. and gave her some glucose to keep her going.
small amounts of chamomile tea in the meantime. in the evening feed her
some acidophilous, and then at night start with diluted formula again.
we have a follow up visit tomorrow.
Here is something that i did not know but is a helpful peace of information that you all might use.
Chamomile tea is a natural laxativ and works great with kittens.
thank you all for your help and support. i will keep you posted.
